Type of Provision/Range of Need
Designated Special Provision for pupils age 11 to 18 with primary diagnosis of Autism who may, for part of their day require a more structured and quieter environment than is normally available in a mainstream classroom. Not appropriate for children with severe developmental delay nor those whose primary need is of an emotional and behavioural origin.
Admission Arrangements and Area Served
Following referral from the Special Needs Assessment Panel. Primarily serves Northampton and South and West Northamptonshire.
All children have access to the National Curriculum, differentiated to age and ability. The curriculum is delivered supported by principles of TEACCH. Pupils will follow the broad academic curriculum of a secondary school. The inclusion of students into mainstream lessons will take place through careful planning as appropriate for each individual.
Organisation and Special Resources
Planned as a 30 place provision pupils will benefit from supported access to mainstream classes, together with access to discrete provision. Specifically trained staff with external professional support.
Home/School Liaison and Review
Close links between parents and school. Continuous assessment and person centred planning/review.
Visiting and Pupil Transport Arrangements
Parents and professionals are always welcome to visit the school by appointment. Where appropriate, pupil transport is provided in accordance with the Local Education Authority Transport Policy.
At 16+ pupils may transfer to Further Education Provision or remain at Duston to 18/19 years.
