Type of Provision/Range of Need
Northgate School provides education for pupils aged 11 to 19 years who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. The School is fully accessible to children with physical difficulties and has provision for ASD/Autism, hearing impairment and speech and language difficulties.
Admission Arrangements and Area Served
Admission to the school is via referral from Children and Families Services, Inclusion and Pupil Support (IPS). The school is a resource for the Northampton Borough, Daventry and South Northants, although pupils come from other areas of the county at the request of IPS.
Full National Curriculum with appropriate modification and differentiation to match pupils’ needs. External Accreditation where appropriate.
Organisation and Special Resources
Experienced specialist teachers, including hearing impairment and a wide range of support including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Welfare Officers and Medical Officers. Facilities include access for wheelchairs and associated specialised equipment for lifting. There are two classes for pupils with ASD/Autism and associated learning difficulties who benefit from individual programmes and a higher staff ratio. These groups follow the National Curriculum and access all subject areas within the school either as a class group or as supported individuals. The TEACCH approach is used within the classrooms but as many opportunities as possible are created to help young people integrate and function within the school with a view to giving greater independence in their life at school and post-16.
