Type of Provision/Range of Need
Special School for children age 3 to 11 with moderate, severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. There is also provision for children with autism.
Admission Arrangements and Area Served
Following referral from the Special Needs Assessment Panel. Primarily Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire. Educational Aims All children have access to the full National Curriculum. The curriculum is strongly practical to enable the child to develop through a wide range of activities. Children are set challenging but achievable goals.
Organisation and Special Resources
Experienced and well-trained staff with additional support from Educational Psychologists, specialist support teachers, therapists and school medical officers. Facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, soft play room, sensory room, medical room, music room and library. There is also a large hall and a parents’ room. The Autism groups are organised on TEACCH principles. Where appropriate, children share integration opportunities with mainstream pupils on the campus.
Home/School Liaison and Review
Parents are always welcome in the school. They are also invited to reviews and parents’ evenings and to special events such as assemblies. Close contact is also maintained through home/school books and telephone calls.
Visiting and Pupil Transport Arrangements
Parents and professionals are welcome, as above. Where appropriate, pupil transport is provided in accordance with the Local Educational Authority Transport Policy.
Pupils transfer at 11+ to other special schools, including Friars School in Wellingborough, or to Wren Spinney in Kettering. Some pupils may transfer to mainstream schools during the primary phase.
