In October 2008 we launched 'The Appeal' for £150,000. It was critical for our survival that we replenished our depleted reserves and had sufficient funding to carry on the work we do. The response from everyone has been simply wonderful. We have been overwhelmed by support we have received from every part of the community. A large number of you have made donations; clubs, pubs and other groups have run events such as sponsored walks, cake bakes, raffles and parties. There have been numerous dances and socials held on our behalf, and many have volunteered their time and talent for our cause. The business community has also rallied round through generous donations and by providing us with free business services.
So how are we doing so far with The Appeal? To date we have received just short of £138,694.00 from all the various fundraising activities described above, so we have still some way to go before we reach our target. However, this is an astonishing amount of money raised in a short space of time and we are deeply grateful to all have made this happen.
The money has helped to secure the future of Autism Concern and we are pleased to say that the outlook now does look brighter .We are confident that we can maintain our remaining services and have now expanded our children's service's. It is so important that The Appeal continues and the fundraising energy remains high as we strive towards our target of £150,000.
The Appeal has been about raising sufficient money to ensure that our charity can continue it's work improving the lives of people affected by autism. What we have also uncovered is the vast wealth of goodwill that exists in the wider community towards us and the work we do. This has been truly uplifting and has heartened all of us at Autism Concern knowing that what we are working towards has the enduring support of our community.
